Online Business - How To Ruin A Perfectly Good Email Marketing Campaign

by Pasi Kaarakainen

As you begin promoting your online business chances are you have every intention of getting results out of your effort. While email marketing can be extremely effective, there are some things you can do without even realizing it that can ruin your campaign. Here are a few tips to avoid ruining a perfectly good marketing opportunity.

The first thing you want to avoid at all costs is going on and on about the features of your business, program, or product. No one wants to read an email filled with technical jargon. Instead, go into more detail about how the reader can benefit from what you have to offer. You want to make it more about them and less about you.

Many times online business entrepreneurs get caught up into the numbers game in regards to discounts and commission percentages. Of course you want to go into details about large discounts and commission percentages, but be careful about including small numbers. If you are having a discount on your website that is less than 20%, it is best to leave it out of your email marketing.

The whole point of marketing is to create urgency and get people to check out your website. If you have no urgency in your tone, people will have no purpose of jumping on your offers. Avoid using phrases like “the sale that never ends” or “take your time to think about your options.” You want people to get done reading your message and jump straight to your website.

As for the price of products or a membership, typically it is best to leave this out. Of course people want you to include it so they can see right there what to expect. But by leaving it out you will get people who are remotely interested to come take a look at your website to at least see the pricing.

The last thing you can do to ruin an email marketing campaign is leave out your contact information. Of course people will have your email address simply by you sending the email. But you want to be forward with each reader that you are willing to talk to them about any questions or concerns they may have. Include your email address, phone number, and anything else you may want at the end of the email address.

Running an effective marketing campaign is far from a walk in the park. The same can be said about an email marketing campaign. If you are looking to fail with your marketing, then do everything that is mentioned in this article. Otherwise, take in what is highlighted here and start making the most of the online business opportunity in front of you.
