1. Mix free and paid advertising to maximize your exposure. Many internet marketers try to rely strictly on free advertising and often that is not enough.

You certainly can get quality traffic doing free advertising but often it takes longer to see the results. A good example of this is article marketing.

Writing an article and submitting it to a top directory can bring some immediate traffic. However, over time having hundreds or thousands of articles in numerous article directories can lead to a steady stream of quality traffic on a consistent basis.

Paid advertising allows you to get traffic right away.  At least you hope it does.

A good example of this is doing pay per click advertising. Many internet marketers have found that Yahoo and Bing drive traffic at a more reasonable cost than Google Adwords.

This form of advertising is used by most successful internet marketers at some point in their business. The sooner you get started on this and work out a formula that works for you the more website traffic you will get.

2. Initially, when you start you should concentrate on learning one form of advertising inside out. Again we will use article marketing as an example.

To become a successful article marketer you will need to learn how to quickly write useful articles and do it in volume. It takes time to master this skill.

One problem people have is that they spent all day working on one article when in reality that’s a bad strategy. Your goal is to get as many articles in the marketplace as you can and the only way to do that is to become an expert at writing and submitting them.

3. Because the internet continues to grow you will always have competitors promoting their business. The only way to get the website traffic that you want is to constantly be working at promoting your business. Don’t make the mistake of advertising in spurts and then stopping as this is a bad strategy.
